Nothing cuts through a grey winter evening like a cocktail suitable of Toucan Sam . Here are a bread maker ’s twelve drinks , photograph and mixedby you .
WINNER : Blue Monday
This is a Blue Monday :

2 oz vodka¼ oz triple sec¼ oz blue curacoa
Place all of the ingredients together with ice into a cocktail shaker , shake and serve in a martini glass with a Citrus limon tress . The pic was taken with a Canon 7D and EFS 17 - 85 mm @ 30 millimeter . Exposure was 1/250 at f/22 , ISO 100 . Lighting was a individual Alien Bees strobe at around 80 % power located above the glass facing into the background . I used Lightroom for some color tweaks & minimal touch up . The field glass was place on a piece of plexi to create the expression , on top of a mainsheet of posterboard to give the white colour . The background was another sheet of white posterboard , flanked by two blackened sheet to bring out the edge on the shabu . Typically when shooting glass on a white background you put the light below the table buck up into the background signal to minimize isolated luminousness , but I was too worried about splashing it with vodka ! I flipped the setup around , and as a fillip was able-bodied to produce the grey gradient which emphasizes the horizon .

Fernet Flip

I made a Fernet Flip using that I saw at a local restaurant in Denver . I wiretap the mixologist for the formula as well as some bakshish on getting the right foam for a flip . He happily accommodate me and told me the recipe which I later compose down.1.5 oz Fernet Branca1.5 oz Sweet Vermouth ( I used Dolin)0.5 oz Rich simple sirup ( 2:1)1 Whole EggCombine in mover and shaker and ironic milkshake ( no frappe ) . Add only a few magnanimous cubes ( water dilution hamper foam ) and shake . Strain into chilled coupe glass . How I shot it was with a VSD160 with softbox camera right . I try on to keep the aperture widely so that I could slur the background . The camera / electron lens frame-up was a Canon EOS 5D Mark II with a Canon EF 100 mm f/2.8L IS macro . The flash was trigger with pocket wizards . Specific options wereISO 100 , 100 mm focal length , f/4.0 , 1/60 2d shutter speed , IS turn on .

Old Fashioned

The contest inspired us to crack open up the hard liquor and make up one of my darling : the Old Fashioned:3 oz Bourbon2 - 3 bolt angostura bitters1 sugar cubeOrange twist and Maraschino cherry to garnishI got up closely with my trustworthy f/2.8 30 mm flower on a Sony SLT - A57 . The pic was accept at 1/60th f/2.8 ISO 1600 at 30 mm . There ’s something about the vibrancy of the orange crook and the maraschino cerise plant against the ample color of the Bourbon that made this picture really compelling for me . I also sleep together exploring shallow deepness of arena , which is all to leisurely with a macro lens as f/2.8 . The good part was finishing my cocktail at the end – what a unadulterated direction to expend an evening in this cold !

Sometimes you need a pick me up , and what better way than caffein , sugar and booze . I was going for the direct contrast of a crude background and scene with an overly fancy glass .

Bourbon dynasty
For this weeks photo challenge , the subject of choice is Bulleit Bourbon Frontier Whiskey . No mixer , no garnishes , just whisky . Do n’t be a bitch . For the shot , I used my Nikon D40 on the sports setting . I used a shining desk lamp for the lighting . I want to get an natural process dead reckoning of a pour and think this did the line of work quite nicely .

Speyside Scotch
This photo is of an 18yr Speyside Scotch ( Kirkland Signature make ) , neat . It was shoot down with a Canon G9 , in raw , lit with a dingy LED flashlight . I like the redirection of the light , from the shape of the field glass . I warm it up a bit in ACR prior to possible action , due to the blue light from the LED . Other than a harvest in Photoshop , and a small amount of post - processing in ACR , this is how it was shot . The looking glass is from Nambe .

Absinthe
The recipe for this shot was Absinthe , a Sugar Cube and Fire . Shot at ISO 400 , .4 Secs , f3.2 , 155 mm . I had never tried Absinthe before , but always desire to . The movies seem to glamorize it a number , drop the pee over the sugar square block or setting it ablaze . I was stupid enough to utilize a non - mollify shabu for this shot so in brief after this photo was taken the glass break up , leak flaming green goo onto the fatal paper ground . I was able to muff out the flame like a big birthday cd , but now i ’m out a fancy martini deoxyephedrine .
