At a press league held yesterday at the Canadian Space Agency ’s headquarters , Hadfield told a standing - way only interview : “ I ’m making honest on a hope I made to his married woman nigh 30 years ago — that yes , eventually , we would be go back to Canada . ” His retirement is effective July 3rd .

“ I ’ve had such an interesting career and after 35 years it ’s time to step down , ” Commander Hadfield was quote as saying by the CBC . “ I ’m the last astronaut of my grade that ’s still around . ”
“ Chris Hadfield has inspired all Canadians , peculiarly our next - generation of scientist and engineers , ” Chris Alexander , parliamentary secretary for defence , said in a statement .
“ His exceptional career achievements make him a true Canadian hero and icon . ”

We bid Hadfield all the best – and while we know we should n’t expect him to assert his impressive social medium front , we ’re affirmative that he ’ll stick around in some content . On a related note , we hope that more astronauts , moving forward , will take a page or two from Hadfield ’s playbook when it follow to operate with the world about science and place .
