Somewhere out there , the touch of Jack Kirby is happy , because last dark ’s counter of Batman : The Brave and The Bold gave his OMAC grapheme the best treatment he ’s had in 30 + years . Shame the episode was still middling dull .
OMAC is one of those character that has a capital construct that almost no - one has been able to do anything with : Basically , he ’s a nobody who gets retrofitted without his knowledge or consent to become the ultimate soldier , One Man Army Corps ( or OMAC , for short ) . After class of attempts to update the graphic symbol , work the character into even superhero cosmos continuity and just generally redo the conception all in all , the comic interlingual rendition of the fiber seems pretty broken , but the Brave and Bold reading managed to get everything right by … well , playing it comparatively uncoiled .
“ When OMAC Attacks ” was n’t the show ’s good installment , nor an obvious selection to convey the show back after its summertime break – Both of those would be next week ’s melodic episode – but it was entertaining enough , even for non - Kirby enthusiasts ( Kirby rooter like me would ’ve spent the episode going “ Is that really Kafka from the comic ? Seriously ? Awesome ! ” ) ; using OMAC as an representative of classic sketch lesson “ Sometimes , it ’s better not to press ” was a smart move , equilibrise by the consumption of alter ego Buddy Blank as last - minute Noel Coward - made - good , saving Batman from mystic scoundrel Equinox . Where it fall down was a lack of the ego - mindful , more - than - a - petty - wacky humour that ’s often the show ’s best quality … In fact , if anything , the installment seemed too sincere and straightforward . But perhaps that ’s because next week used up all the unhinged tablet .
In the death , it was dainty to see the show back , and that goodwill alone was enough to make what was really a middling episode seem better than it actually was . But , having seen next week ’s “ Mayhem of the Music Meister ! , ” I cognize that much , much better things are around the nook . Better chance next time , then .
