Update 5 12:38PM EDT : We holler the Prince Georges County Police Department to see if we could assist David in his hunting . The officer explained that while the “ iPhone finder app ” was nifty , you’re able to not account a crime for someone else ’s iPhone from out of state with a screenshot of where it might be . I was taking the Amtrak nursing home from a NOVA shoot in Philly on Monday . When the power train pulled into Bridgeport — my stop — I checked my pockets . Phone was n’t there . The conductor helped me seek — nowhere around the seat . She dialed it from her own earphone , and it run right to voicemail . As the caravan sit there at the station , I used Find My iPhone , and it said that the phone was “ offline . ” In other words , somebody already had it , and had powered it off .
I have estimate how it got snagged — I had get out my seat only once , to get something from the café automobile , and I ’d take the sound with me . Either I was pickpocketed , or I set it down thoughtlessly and it was nabbed .
Find My iPhone go on to report the phone “ Offline ” until this daybreak , when BOOM — it send me an electronic mail saying that the headphone was back online and had been locate !
I ’ve notified Maryland constabulary and gone out to Twitter . I ’ve also used get hold My iPhone to nail a message to the screen , offering a reward and my temp phone number . The telephone set is in a really spoilt neck of the woods , so I ’m not sure how lucky I ’ll get … but it ’s play to ride this wave !

Update 9 2:10PM EDT : If David attempts to retrieve the telephone himself , heshould proceed with extreme circumspection ; the Carmody Hills - Pepper Mill Village domain has nearly twice as many murder as the internal average , and more than three times the fair identification number of assaults .
It also appears that while there are several registered sexual practice offenders ( RS ) in the area , none lives at the address where David Pogue ’s phone is currently located .

I ’m a police officer that works in the area where stateless person ’s telephone is . I might be able to help , I can at least go strike hard on the door .
Any way to get in touch w/ DP ? you could pass him my cellphone phone [ REDACTED ] . It would be helpful if when I ’m @ the theatre in enquiry , if he could make the snappy tonus sound .
Before knocking and press for the headphone back , it would also be helpful to cognise how DP want ’s to proceed if I can get the phone . IE , does he want to campaign guardianship against someone , or does he just want the earphone back ? ? If he just want ’s the phone , that substantially increase the chances of getting it back . If he want ’s to adjure charges , he ’s blend in to have to file a theft account in whichever jurisdiction he was in when the telephone set go miss ( NOVA to Philly ) . Then , if they refuse having the telephone at the door , we ’d have to essay to get a search warrant , which is iffy at best give that we could be at the faulty house reach the iPhone ’s + /- accuracy on the GPS .
This is n’t a cozenage and I ’m not a closet DP stalker . Just a technical school guy wire that go out the post , possibly in a location to help .
