The Los Angeles Lakers are working to fix the multiple typos discovered on the newKobe Bryantstatue in downtown Los Angeles, the team said in a statement on Monday.
The misspellings, which are etched into the memorial statue outside of the Lakers' Crypto.com Arena, went viral Sunday after sports journalist André Voigt pointed them out in photoson X.
On Monday, a spokesperson for the Lakers toldESPN, “We have been aware of this for a few weeks and are already working to get it corrected soon,” in a statement.
The errors include several misspellings of the names of former Toronto Raptors who played against Bryant in his famous 81-point game in Jan. 2006 that was memorialized on the marble statue, which was unveiled on Feb. 8 during a special ceremony.
Former Raptor José Calderón’s name is spelled “Calderson” and Von Wafer’s mention lists him as “Vom” Wafer where the statue displays the box score from that matchup. Another spot misspells “decision” as “decicion.”

Vanessa, 41, who married Bryant in 2001, delivered an emotional speech at the unveiling, thankingfans for their support throughout the years.
“Kobe has so many people that have supported him all over the world from the very beginning and this moment isn’t just for Kobe, but it’s for all of you that have been rooting for him all of these years,” said Vanessa.
Vanessa confirmed that two more statues will be erected in front of Crypto.com Arena: one showing him wearing the No. 8 and another featuring Bryant with their late daughter, Gianna.
