University of Florida Gators basketball starKeyontae Johnsonis slowly easing back onto the court after collapsing during a game earlier this month.
Florida coach Mike White told reporters this week that the 21-year-old player has rejoined the team following his release from the hospital, 10 days after collapsing on the court on Dec. 12. But Johnson isn’t participating in drills or games just yet, White said, and instead, he’s on the sidelines helping the coaching staff.
“Keyontae Johnson is back with us and doing well,” White said during a weekly teleconference on Monday, according toUSA Today. “He was at practice this morning and yesterday afternoon. He’s in good spirits, he’s helping us coach. He actually blew a whistle yesterday.”
Johnson seems to have made great strides in his recovery since he fell minutes into the game against Florida State University, which lead to him being placed in a medically induced coma, his grandfather Larry DeJarnett toldUSA Today.

White said he could not release more information about Johnson’s health, and that anything further would have to come from his family.
“There’s not a lot I can say about Keyontae from a medical standpoint. His past, current and future medical condition, because of privacy laws and incomplete information on my end, and most importantly because it’s not my role in this process, his medical team and his family are leading that front,” White toldreporters. “So any decisions, any announcements, will come from them.”
The family has not announced the cause of Johnson’s medical emergency, but he didtest positivefor thecoronavirusover the summer, theAssociated Pressreported.
